Founder and former CEO of BinaryThing, Planet PDF's parent company (now consolidated as Nitro PDF), Karl De Abrew (B Dig Sys) previously lead the team that brought you Planet PDF, the Planet PDF Forum and PDF Store.
Since 1997, Karl's guidance has seen Planet PDF grow into the home of the PDF community. Karl is a well-recognized PDF personality and seasoned speaker, heavily involved in such events as Seybold SF, Seybold Boston, Seybold NY, PDF Conference 2000, East, West, Baltimore, TextOneZero, Open Publish, PacPrint which has seen him heading all over the east and west coast of the US, Australia and even Korea while fostering the development of the PDF Community. In addition, his PDF development experience is extensive, including IAC applications, plug-ins, JavaScript, forms, security handlers, dynamic PDF and more. Prior to founding BinaryThing, Karl worked with a multinational investment bank as a Systems Engineer, where he oversaw the development and deployment of a PDF-based Web publishing system for their Research department. Karl has also been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) and a commissioned officer in the 1st Commando Regiment.
Karl is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Debenu Pty. Ltd. Years ago when we used to talk about PDF as being the most prominent document format, we'd always have to add a quick, under-the-breath, "de-facto standard". But when it came to being 100 percent assured that it would be around in years to come, it's always been a case of biting our collective lips and hoping for the best. What we would do if Adobe pulled the plug? Over the past two years, though, it's been nothing but standards, standards, standards when it comes to PDF.
