California-based WebAssist announced the release of SiteScribe, a solution targeted at Dreamweaver users which enables them to create a PDF document from any site, local or remote, directly within Dreamweaver.
Planet PDF caught up with John Lowery, VP of Marketing at WebAssist who talked to us about the release and what impact it will have long-term for Dreamweaver users.
When asked what Dreamweaver users would be most psyched about, Lowery said, "Dreamweaver users will be psyched about finally being able to print to their sites. The ability to print to a site has been a feature request since Dreamweaver 2.0, but it never made the official cut and so the requests keep getting deferred."
In addition, SiteScribe features full security control with password protection and printing or copying options. The print solution also gives users the ability to manually select page options, insert or remove web page images form PDF, and set maximum number of web pages to export.
Users will also find WebAssist's PDF export engine useful in expediting workflow processes. "We think it's one of the missing links between designer and client or designer and colleague communications. With a PDF version of a site in development, designers can get more precise comments in their pursuit of client (or boss) approval. It's also a nifty way to archive the look and feel of a site," said Lowery.
The initial rollout for SiteScribe is for Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2, or Windows Server 2003 and requires Java 1.4 or higher. SiteScribe supports Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and Dreamweaver 8. Lowery said a Mac version is in development but a release date has not been set.
