The free Acumen Journal presents two monthly articles, one -- "The Acrobat User" -- featuring advanced uses of Adobe Acrobat, and the second -- "PostScript Tech" -- covering some aspect of PostScript programming.

For August, the technical features by John Deubert of Acumen Training are:

  • The Acrobat User: " JavaScript: The Acrobat global object"
The Acrobat JavaScript global object allows your Acrobat form to retain information across Acrobat sessions. It also allows you to pass information from one form to another. This is as vastly useful as it sounds.

  • PostScript Tech: "Color Key Image Masking"
PostScript Level 3 introduced the ability to specify that certain colors within an image should not be painted. This can make it relatively easy to mask out the background of an image, painting only the image's foreground subject.

The free Acumen Journal for August 2004 [PDF: 484kb] can be downloaded from Planet PDF, as well as from the Acumen Training Web site.

The issue also includes the schedules and dates for Acumen's Acrobat, PostScript and other related classes.
