Germany-based callas software received the lead score among seven tested PDF/A validation tools in a comparative study by PDF expert Thomas Merz, CEO of PDFlib GmBH.
The goal of the Bavaria Report was to test the PDF/A validation tool's ability to identify problems in PDF/A files that are not compliant for archiving only, and therefore not triggering false alarms and rejecting correct files. The Bavaria Report used the PDF/A Competence Center Isator Test Suite -- which was a set of over 200 PDF files with compliance issues in terms of the PDF/A standard. This set was also balanced by a selection of compliant PDF/A files.
Merz said of the study's findings, "In our comparative analysis, pdfaPilot was the only validator that correctly identified all standard-compliant test files."
Olaf Druemmer, Managing Director of callas software said, "The quality of a PDF/A validation tool is not only about filtering out files that do not comply with PDF/A standard. For practical reasons, it's equally important that valid PDF/A files are clearly identified as valid without hesitation."
