During the first day of its flagship Seybold Seminars event for 2004 in San Francisco, MediaLive International, Inc. today announced a series of new events for 2005 to separately address the creative and workflow markets. 2005 Seybold Seminars events in New York and San Francisco will focus on creative professionals, while the Chicago and Amsterdam conferences will concentrate on the digital automation of publishing workflows. Two additional content management events will be announced later this summer.

Conference dates set for 2005 include:

  • New York, February 23-25
  • Amsterdam, June 20-23
  • San Francisco, August 29-31
  • Chicago, September 12-14

In addition to the 2005 events, Seybold San Francisco 2004's keynote addresses, conference tracks and tutorials are featuring industry experts who will provide knowledge and information in the areas of Web publishing, print publishing, PDF, XML, platforms, color and digital imaging and advanced media. For this fall's event, organizers opted for a newly reformatted conference program -- instead of the separate "PDF Day" or "PDF Conference" sessions that have been part of the conference for the past few years, SSF 2004 adopted a "functional designed track" approach targeting four key aspects of content creation and publishing. Most of the tracks include sessions featuring PDF-based solutions, including the always popular "Seybold Seven: Seven PDF Vendors" session during which a selection of vendors are previewing new Acrobat/PDF-oriented products and solutions they're bringing to market. That session is slated for Wed., August 18 from 4-5 p.m. this year. Earlier that same day, James C. King of Adobe Systems is giving a conference keynote address.

James M. Smith, VP and GM of Seybold Seminars, Publications & Consulting told Planet PDF that each of the 2005 events will include a significant focus on PDF-related topics and issues relevant to the specific focus of the re-branded, educational events. "Where New York and San Francisco end," Smith said, "Chicago and Amsterdam will pick up," covering the gamut of creative and production themes of most interest to the target audiences for each.

"The addition of Seybold Seminars events in New York and Chicago now gives both the creative and production communities their own individual conferences to help them focus on the specific needs of each industry and allow these professionals to become more successful in their fields," he said. "Based on feedback from vendors and buyers, and advice from the Seybold Advisory Board, we realized that the needs of the creative and workflow markets are better served separately."

Events in Chicago and Amsterdam will bring together publishing workflow professionals seeking new strategies, best practices and workflows in order to provide them with continuing education on the most current and emerging technologies and concepts. The New York and San Francisco conferences are designed to specifically address the needs of creative professionals involved in designing and creating content for print and the Web by providing them with knowledge and information that is immediately applicable to real-world situations.

"I applaud Seybold Seminars for working to serve the specific needs of both the creative professional and publishing workflow markets," said Sean Hiss of Enfocus Software. "We are excited by the addition of Seybold's New York and Chicago conferences and look forward to sharing the responsibility of driving the industry's strategic direction and innovation with Seybold Seminars."

Additional information on content for each 2005 event will be announced in the upcoming months. Seybold Seminars is now accepting speaking proposals for all 2005 events. Professionals from the print and Web publishing industry and executives from the business communications industry interested in sharing best practices are invited to submit speaking proposals.
