For two National Football League teams, this weekend's mega-hyped Super Bowl marks the culmination of another pro season with the ultimate championship game -- which to some has become secondary to the associated entertainment hoopla and primetime showcase for slick, often-humorous television ads.

The play-by-play physical skirmishes between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles will be sandwiched between top-dollar product pitches for tech gadgets, beer and a plethora of other commercial goods. Mix in a high-calibre half-time show featuring Paul McCartney of Beatles fame, and viewers will have limited opportunity for hours on end to do more than sit, stare, eat and drink.

couch potato exercises Even though its hometown Steelers got knocked out of the pre-Super Bowl playoffs, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette offers a public service to those who "still have the heart to watch the big game" -- a printable, one-page PDF describing six easy exercises [PDF: 752kb] aimed at getting Super Sunday couch potatoes to adopt a few healthy diversions.

The set of exercises address different muscle groups, from the so-called "Couch Potato Kickoff" leglifts to the "Bad Call Neck Rotation" that targets muscles in the back and sides of the neck. Passing the chips does not count as exercise.
