This week in PDF has seen one software vendor announce Section 508 compliance, PDF functionality added to a 3D tool, and the release of a PDF developer library that is compatible with Sun Solaris.
First up, Bluebeam Software has announced that its PDF editor, Bluebeam PDF Revu, is now Section 508 compliant. Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act prescribes standards for making solutions accessible to people with disabilities, such as those with reading or visual impairments. As the press release notes, US federal agencies must "use programs that meet Section 508 guidelines ... to ensure that information and electronic technology can be accessed by employees with disabilities." To find out more about how the product meets the guidelines, you can view the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) prepared by TestPros, Inc.
