This week in PDF has seen regular community updates of the PDF SDK, Quick PDF Library, the release of a free PDF library, an update to Adobe's PDF-compatible eBook software and Microsoft's certification of a PDF software vendor.
First up, the supporters of the PDF SDK, Quick PDF Library, have been avidly working together, and have made a number of their own releases to registered users. Visit quickpdf.org or quickpdflibrary.com for more information.
Next, IDEAL Software has released a free Community Edition of with the 4.0 update to its PDF Library "Virtual Print Engine". The free Community Edition allows unrestricted use within commercial applications, and is currently available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris operating systems. Using the library, developers can dynamically lay out documents, with image dimensions, word- and page-breaks computed automatically. The Community Edition ships with .NET and ASP.NET components, an ActiveX, VCL and DLL / Shared Object, together with demo source codes and extensive help files. ore detailed product information can be found at the vendor web site.
In update news, Adobe Systems has updated its PDF-compatible eBook software. Digital Editions 1.5 allows users to purchase online content for on- or off-line reading, transfer copy-protected publications from one device to another, organize documents into libraries or even annotate individual pages. Last but not least, Equisys has become the first UK independent software vendor (ISV) to achieve certification for Microsoft Dynamics NAV. According to Equisys CEO Chris Oswald,"The unique advantage of Zetadocs [for Microsoft Dynamics NAV] is that it provides comprehensive electronic document production and management from NAV; incorporating the capture of inbound documents, adding automatic document creation and delivery, and then enabling secure storage via Microsoft SharePoint with instant access for authorized users.
