This week in PDF has seen an update to a web content security product, along with the releases of a standard for including advertising material in PDF documents and a PDF developer library compatible with Windows Mobile.
First up, LockLizard has released version 2 of Lizard Protector. The web content security solution allows content owners to protect their web pages from copying, modifying, screen grabbing, saving and distribution -- all without the use of passwords. The new version adds support for viewing protected content online, rather than simply on distributable CDs, along with an updated GUI and the ability to set document expiry by days elapsed or number of views. In other news, the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) has announced the immediate availability of a standard way to include advertising content in PDF documents. The GWG Ad Ticket v1.1 was developed in collaboration with AdsML, the international consortium supporting a global standard for end-to-end advertising workflows. The GWG Ad Ticket provides the necessary information to match the files sent with the ad bookings. This in turn serves to facilitates the reception of ads. The ticket has been more than three years in the making, with an initial version of the ticket published in 2006. The GWG Ad Ticket v1.1 is available as a free download from the GWG website.
Finally, PDFTron Systems Incorporated has officially released its advanced PDF library for Windows Mobile. PDFNet Mobile SDK is a C/C++ software development toolkit for viewing, annotating, creating, and manipulating PDF documents on mobile and embedded devices without any third-party software dependencies. Although the PDFNet Mobile SDK API has all the power and functionality of the desktop PDFNet API, the library is specially designed and optimized to run efficiently on low-power-consuming and memory-constrained mobile devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs, Pocket PCs, and other embedded devices.
