This week in PDF has seen updates galore! Major updates have been made to a popular PDF viewer and a solution for integrating PDF documents into Adobe Director projects, while a premium Adobe product has been updated to support the latest CAD formats.
First up, Foxit Software Company has released the latest version of its PDF viewing software. New features in Foxit Reader 3.0 include Multimedia Design that allows users to add, edit or delete multimedia, Multiple Panels to help organize PDF archives, and support for Firefox. Existing features have also been improved in the latest version of the software. These include enhancements to the application's print setup, security and text update features. In other update news, Integration New Media has announced the latest version of its flagship Xtra for integrating PDFs into multimedia projects within Adobe Director 11. INM Impressario 4 will be the first version to support Adobe Director 11, extending the capabilities of that product by providing developers with a completely self-contained Xtra based upon the Adobe PDF Library. Last but not least, Adobe Systems has updated its premium Acrobat offering to support the latest 3D formats. The update takes the form of a free download for Acrobat 9 Professional Extended. The formats updated as part of the download include Autodesk Inventor (up to 12.x and 2009), CoCreate OneSpace Designer (V3 to V2008), Dassault CATIA V5 (up to R19), Siemens NX (up to NX 6), and Siemens Parasolid (up to 19). The updated translators leverage technology Adobe gained as part of the 2006 acquisition of Trade & Technologies France. The update is available for download, free-of-charge from the Adobe website.
