This week in PDF has seen the release of a roadmap for a pending update to a word processing family. Meanwhile, one software vendor announced that it would provide PDF-based mapping software to the US military for free.
First up, Global Map Systems will provide PDF-based mapping software to American military map-makers for free until the end of 2008. The offer has also been extended to other security and intelligence organizations supporting US troops. LOGIQ PDF is a map publishing solution for publishing ESRI ArcMap information to PDF maps that allow for advanced spatial analysis and reporting. Speaking of maps, The Imaging Source recently published its roadmap for the upcoming version of its word processing component family, TX Text Control. One of the new features of the components for Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 is an extension of the existing Adobe PDF export. With version 15.0, users can create and save ISO conforming PDF/A documents. Using TX Text Control 15.0, PDF/A documents can be automatically created or converted from other supported formats.
The final version has been announced for Q2, 2009. For owners of an annual subscription, TX Text Control 15.0 will be available free of charge when it is released. To find out more, check out the Text Control blog.
