This week in PDF sees another company announcing support for Adobe's deluxe Acrobat product, Acrobat 3D, while Premier Assistive Technology teams with the University System of Georgia to make PDF documents more accessible and PDFTron updates its PDF creation and manipulation SDK.
First up, 3Dconnexion has announced that its line of 3D navigation devices will now support Adobe Acrobat 3D software. With 3DxSoftware Version 3.1, users viewing 3D PDF content in Adobe Reader versions 8 and above or Adobe Acrobat 3D versions 7 and above will be able to use the 3Dconnexion SpacePilot, SpaceExplorer, SpaceTraveler or SpaceNavigator products to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D models. In other news, Premier Assistive Technology has teamed with the University System of Georgia's Alternative Media Access Center to build a tool that improves the accessibility of alternative media documents without requiring a time-consuming file conversion process. PDF Equalizer allows users to access such documents directly in the native PDF form from the publisher. For users reading the documents, the product includes in-built features for managing notes and bookmarks and can be used to convert sections of publications into audio formats, translate text into other languages on-the-fly or organize text into logical reading order. Finally, PDFTron has released an update to its PDF SDK for PDF creation, manipulation, and rendering. PDFNet SDK 3,6 boasts such improvements as an enhanced JBIG2 decoder, improved font substitution and the ability to fine-tune the color conversion during rasterization with improved ICC color support.
