This week in PDF has seen the release of a new PDF presentation suite along with updates to a PDF reference management product and a PDF developer library.
First up, Schott Systeme GmbH has launched its latest PDF presentation suite. Key features of the software include the ability to create typical 'slide show' presentations in the PDF format and the automatic conversion of CAD and graphics data for professional print. The Pictures by PC software suite ships with technical documentation, and is designed to provide users with a number of professional PDF creation tools. Integrated into the software's 'Image Viewer', an Explorer type tool to visually handle project documentation, the user can quickly generate new PDF documents by selecting the files to be included. In update news, Third Street Software has announced an update to its referencing software. Sente 5.5 boasts enhanced PDF management, allowing users to create references directly from existing PDF documents. Sente uses Google Scholar, the Library of Congress and PubMed to create complete references when importing a new PDF. These new features complement the improved PDF acquisition tools introduced in Sente 5.4, which enabled Sente to automatically download, rename and file any PDF the user clicks on in the new Links view. The new version adds a Quick Add feature that lets users create complete citations from only an ISBN, DOI or PubMed ID. Also updated this week were soft Xpansion's PDF developer libraries. PDF Direct & Quick View 5 allow developers to add PDF functionality to their applications using Visual C ++, .NET or languages with COM support. Between them, the libraries allow PDF production and processing (PDF Direct), as well as viewing (PDF Quick View) in software applications. Appropriately implemented, this means that end-users will not need any additional software to create, view or print PDF documents. Among other features, the new version adds 64-bit Windows support, the merging of multiple PDF pages, editing of existing PDF content and digital signature validation.
