This week in PDF has seen the release of a new Acrobat plug-in designed to save PDF documents directly into document management systems, and update to a piece of document management software which allows users to create PDF archives and enhanced PDF/A functionality added to a PDF creation utility.
First up, Omtool has released a new plug-in for Adobe Acrobat. Swiftwriter integrates with Acrobat and Adobe Reader versions 6, 7, and 8, enabling users to save PDF files directly into document management systems (DMS). The plug-in streamlines the document management process by presenting a toolbar icon and 'save-to' command that are tailored to a specific DMS. Swiftwriter is compatible with and currently available for document management systems and repositories from Open Text (Hummingbird), Interwoven, Microsoft SharePoint, and WORLDOX. In other document management news, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., has updated its e-filing and organizing software by PFU. Rack2-Filer 4.0 enables users to convert scanned files and digital data into PDF documents and organize them into graphical e-binders and virtual cabinets. The latest version is now compatible with Windows Vista and supports the entire Fujitsu line of fi-series scanners. For more information, check out the full press release.
Finally, Xenos Group has updated its print-to-electronic conversion software. Xenos d2e Vision v3.0 offers significant new PDF functionality, focusing on the PDF/A standard for long-term archival. Specific enhancements include PDF/A font subsetting, improved font mapping capabilities to increase the fidelity of generated PDF documents and double-byte character support.
