This week in PDF sees form-related features added to a PDF conversion library and a digital signature company adding native support for PDF.
First up, Snowtide Informatics Systems, Inc. has announced the release of PDFTextStream v2.1 for Java, .NET, and Python. The new version adds form update functionality to the PDF text and metadata extraction library, a key requirement of many document-centric web applications and software package vendors. Such functionality is necessary for generating customized interactive PDF forms for customers, business partners, government compliance, and data archival requirements. PDFTextStream v2.1 also boasts support for Kodak print job data extraction (%KDK commands) and four additional PDF file format variants (which do not follow the official PDF document specification), along with several bug fixes and improved documentation. Also expanding the functionality of its offering was E-Lock Digital Signing Solutions, whose digital signature solution now supports the native signing and encryption of PDF documents. This feature enables users and organizations to send invoices, credit card or bank transaction statements, purchase orders and other reports in PDF format with the assurance that only the genuine recipients would be able to read them. The recipients are also assured of the authenticity of the document. Users can even add a visual representation of the embedded signature, which can include time, location and reason for signing. Although signing documents with this solution does not require Acrobat, its signatures are compatible with those of Acrobat. Specifically, signing and encryption can be performed in automated fashion without using Adobe Acrobat and encrypted files can be opened and signatures verified with Adobe Reader.
