Since last time, DocsCorp has updated its flagship product, Windjack has updated its product range for compatibility and PIA/GATF has released a digital benchmarking tool.
First up, DocsCorp has announced the latest release of its pdfDocs Desktop software. New to this release are a new pdfDocs Binder solution, advanced document numbering functionality, tighter integration into document management systems and a new-look interface.
According to David Woolstencroft, DocsCorp Vice President Sales and Marketing, "The new Binder and Numbering set functionality in the 2.1 release provides users with an efficient and flexible method of 'binding' different document types together into a collection of PDF and non-PDF documents, complete with Table of Contents, cross-document bookmarks and links to every document in the collection irrespective of type."

In other update news, Windjack Solutions has recently updated its PDF CanOpener, AcroButtons and AcroDialogs products for Windows Vista compatibility. These updates will be free for current license holders of all versions of AcroButtons and AcroDialogs, and for PDF CanOpener 3.0 license holders. Owners of previous versions of CanOpener will first need to be updated to 3.0 for Vista support, which incurs a nominal fee of $49 USD. Last but not least, PIA/GATF has released a digital benchmarking process control tool. The Altona Test Suite Application Kit is a set of PDF files specially designed for testing digital output devices, particularly proofing solutions for conventional and digital printing systems. The central focus is on a visual comparison of the included reference prints of the Altona Test Suite Application Kit with on-press proofs, off-press proofs, and production prints in order to evaluate the color quality of digital proofing systems and adapt these systems to the standard process. These reference prints support sheetfed and web offset printing conditions in accordance with ISO 12647 standards. In addition, Test Suite Application Kit files contain test form data for offset, continuous-form, newspaper, and gravure publication printing conditions.
The Altona Test Suite Application Kit has been used worldwide for a number of prestigious digital proofing "shootouts." It was jointly developed by leading European graphic arts technical research organizations bvdm, ECI, EMPA/Ugra, and Fogra. The product can be purchased for $750; PIA/GATF members pay $395.
