This week in PDF: Adobe education

October 11, 2006

This week in PDF sees Adobe in the news with the announcement of a roadshow and the release of a new educational software solution. To round out the week's news, another company has announced compliance with the Ghent PDF Workgroup's (GWG) current set of specifications.

First up, Adobe has announced an Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Roadshow to run through Australia and New Zealand. Events will be held in Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth between late-October and early March. The seminars are designed to let users get the most out of both new and established features of the product. For more, check out the Adobe events page.

Adobe has also released the Adobe Digital School Collection, aimed at providing digital communication solutions to K-12 schools. Comprising Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0, Adobe Contribute 4, and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software, the package provides students and teachers with the tools to create rich digital images and video content, Web sites, blogs and collaborative documents for school and classroom projects. Also this week, Kodak announced that its Prinergy 3.1 workflow systems now comply with the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) 2005 PDF/X-Plus V3 specifications for preflight. Facilitating quality control of input files by checking PDF files and notifying operators of issues, Prinergy can also automatically eliminate problems with improperly created PDF files, improving efficiency. More information on the product can be found on the vendor Web site.

That's it for this week! Until next time...
