This week in PDF sees the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) release a quartet of new PDF print standards, the birth of a new startup to offer 3D PDF services and FormRouter renews its license to provide Reader Extensions services.

First up, GWG has released four new PDF-based standards for large format digital printing and screen printing. These new standards are the latest additions to the GWG 2005 version 3 specifications for PDF file exchange in graphic arts. To find out more or download the free specification, visit the GWG Web site.

While PDF's origins may be in print, it has also become a rich final-form display format. Recognizing the potential of PDF's burgeoning 3D capabilities, new startup company FAS Interactive has been formed to take advantage of the opportunities created by these more recent developments in the PDF file format. FAS will offer specialized 3D PDF design and integration services to complement its range of standard PDF solutions. More at www.fasinteractive.com.

Finally, in the "PDF-as-information-gathering-tool" department, FormRouter has renewed its deal with Adobe Systems to offer Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions as an ASP service through to September 2008. According to the press release:

LiveCycle Reader Extensions allow organizations to unlock advanced forms- processing features within the free and ubiquitous Adobe Reader software at no extra cost to end users. When a rights-enabled PDF document is opened, users can access advanced features such as digital signatures, and offline local save. Once the document is submitted or closed, these special rights are disabled in Adobe Reader until the user opens another rights-enabled PDF file.

More information on FormRouter's services can be found on its Web site.

That's it for this week. Watch this space!
