This week in PDF has seen the release of a pair of interesting PDF conversion options, while an email security solution has been beefed up with the addition of PDF encryption functionality.

First up, KataLogX-Software has launched an online service that allows companies to convert PDF catalogs and brochures into interactive Flash documents. PDF-Flasher includes an interactive index feature that allows viewers to jump directly to targeted information, and resulting documents are displayed with turnable pages. Clients can build their own Flash catalogs in a self-service environment in order to produce a consistent look-and-feel across company documents. As a wholly browser-based solution, PDF-Flasher does not require users to install any software on their own machines. To find out more, check out the official vendor web site.

In other PDF conversion news, Screaming Bee LLC has released a text-to-speech product for enriching their flat PDF scripts to prototype their stories and create multimedia presentations. ScriptVOX Studio features high-quality voice modification, graphic storyboarding, and audio and video rendering capabilities.

"We created ScriptVOX Studio to bring a writer's story to life," says Mark Ramirez, CEO of Screaming Bee. He adds, "Writers can easily assign voices to their characters and create a graphic storyboard for the script. This is a great tool for helping a writer to prototype their stories."

In addition to PDF, the software also supports the importing of stories in plain text, RTF and DOC formats. A video demo of the software can be found on YouTube, and more information about the product can be found at Screamingbee.com.

Last but not least, Entrust's secure email solution now supports PDF encryption. Already supporting PGP, S/MIME and Webmail Pull and Web Mail push delivery methods, Entrust Entelligence Messaging Server's new secure PDF delivery capability provides end-users with a means of secure communication. Meanwhile, reading encrypted messages now only requires a PDF reader such as the free Adobe Reader. Encryption is achieved through strong password-based encryption standards. Recipients can read encrypted messages offline and the document remains secure wherever it is sent, stored or copied. Encrypted e-mails do not get blocked by spam filters since HTML or Java script files are not included in the message. Full product details can be found on the Entrust web site.

That's it for this week. Watch this space!
