This week in PDF: PDF creation and conversion

October 04, 2006

This week in PDF sees updates to a PDF printer, a Macintosh-compatible PDF-to-Word conversion utility and a suite of 3D publishing solutions.

Amic Utilities has this week released version 1.2 of PDF Writer Pro, a low-cost PDF creation tool. Costing around $50 USD, PDF Writer Pro v1.2 installs as a printer driver and allows users to administer passwords and configure paper size, resolution, compression and font embedding for output documents. For more, check out the Amic Utilities Web site.

In other PDF creation news, QuadriSpace has updated its range of 3D publishing software, which now offers users the ability to create lean 3D PDF documents for exchange and review. According to the company's press release, said documents are typically 3-10% of the 3D CAD originals and can be further reduced using the included polygon reduction tools. Moving on to conversion from PDF now, and Japanese company Recosoft Corporation has released a major upgrade to its PDF-to-Word plug-in for the Mac OS X platform. PDF2Office Personal v3.0 is a Universal Binary that includes the capability to convert static PDF forms into editable Word documents or to change PDF files into high-resolution images embeddable in Word files. More information on the release can be found on the vendor Web site.

That's it for this week! Until next time...
