This week in PDF, we note that Adobe has reduced the price of its premium Acrobat desktop software, Bluebeam has announced a major update to its flagship product and PDF Tools has updated its 3-Heights PDF programming tools.

First up, Adobe has reduced the suggested retail price of Acrobat 3D Version 8 from US$995 to US$699 as of early January, 2008. The new price is reflected on Adobe's online store. According to Adobe's original message:

Adobe does ongoing pricing analysis of its products, and based on recent research believes the new price of Acrobat 3D will help make the product accessible to an even larger set of individuals and organizations in the manufacturing and AEC markets.

In other news, Bluebeam has announced a pending update to its PDF creation and editing software. The software developer's web site notes incentive pricing will be available in the lead-up to the release of Bluebeam PDF Revu 6.0. Users buying version 5.5 before the release of the more expensive version 6.0 in late-Feb will be entitled to a free upgrade. For more information about Bluebeam's product offerings, check out the Bluebeam web site.

Last but not least, PDF Tools has released an update to its programming tools. The Version 1.60 update to the 3-Heights range includes the official release of the 3-Heights PDF to PDF/A Converter. The new tool converts standard PDF documents into PDF/A-compliant documents. Required information is embedded or reformatted, forbidden content is removed and repairs are conducted. The process also allows for the application of a PDF/A-compliant digital signature to ensure the document's continued compliance. More information can be found on the vendor's official web site.

That's it for this week. Watch this space!
