Morten Skogly dropped his iPhone onto asphalt and was suddenly faced with a broken screen, or as he puts it, a "cobweb of sadness". With a cheap replacement part and his step-by-step guide, you can prise out a sad, splintered screen and get your phone back on the road.

Of course it would be best not to void your warranty, but Apple won't fix broken screens in all countries; they may insist that you buy a new phone (ouch!). Skogly decided that DIY had to be worth a shot, took photos as he went, and made this free fix-it guide.

Load up the PDF from Lifehacker.com for the DIY instructions, including replacement part numbers and disassembly tips.
