activePDF has released PrimoPDF, a free Windows-only tool for creating PDFs from any application that allows printing. According to the special Web site from which the software can be downloaded, "PrimoPDF is covered under the Aladdin Free Public License (AFPL) and the source code can be downloaded ... PrimoPDF also uses AFPL Ghostscript and the source code can be downloaded ... "
During printing, PrimoPDF provides an option to optimize the resulting PDF document either for printing or for on-screen use. It produces a PDF 1.3-compliant (Acrobat 4) file. According to the product site, activePDF will provide online support of the product via a bulletin board that will open March 1.
