Nitro PDF Software has launched a new edition of its Acrobat alternative, Nitro PDF Professional. Nitro PDF Professional OCR adds optical character recognition functionality to the company's flagship product, allowing users to OCR PDF files.
The new product allows users to create PDF files and recognize text from pre-existing image- or paper-based documents, allowing them to be searched, edited, archived, and published. Utilizing IRIS technology, it streamlines the document consolidation and archival process, enabling the creation of fully-compliant, easily-archived PDF/A documents from disparate, pre-existing printed documents and images. With multi-language support, OCR can be used on English, German, French, and Spanish-language documents.
Nitro PDF Professional OCR also includes all of the functionality of Nitro PDF Professional, allowing users to create, annotate and otherwise manipulate PDF documents.
Gina O'Reilly, Nitro PDF Software's SVP of Sales & Marketing, said that OCR was the feature most requested by users. Consequently, O'Reilly claims, there was never any doubt that OCR would be added -- the only question was how quickly it could be built.
