I'm *making* PDFs in Classic - is that what you mean? I assume so?
I dropped my Job Options file with the options for my specific job into the Distiller/Settings folder. Then I set up a Virtual Printer and aimed it at the Job Options for that job.
I think I may have had to drop Desktop Printer Utility (an extension, saved from my old Mac) into the Extensions folder in Classic, and maybe switch on a couple of extensions.
(Sorry I can't be more specific; I was in a blind panic, with about half my livelihood depending on having the thing set up *right now*, and in fact ended up bringing the Mac down to the printers and getting their help with all this.)
Once I had this set up - and you'll be able to do it at more leisure, I just went into the document I wanted to PDF, and chose File/Print/ then chose the option File instead of Document.
Then I went through the tabs on the resulting dialogue box, choosing PostScript as the file type, then answered Save and Print to the final dialogues.
The document prints as a .ps file; I then dropped it on to the Distiller icon, and Distiller made a PDF document from it.
Try messing around with this and you should be able to do it.
If anyone who does this all the time wants to make an FAQ on how to set up Classic (especially under Panther) to print PDFs, it'd be a big help, and would certainly make the site stickier.
