I have thousands of PDF files that were converted from TIFF images using c42pdf. I need to modify them so they open in "Fit Width" mode instead of "Fit in Window".

If I use an editor to add "ViewerPreferences << FitWindow true >>" in the /Catalog section are there any other dependencies that need to be satisfied? I can't get this to work.

If I add something like:

45 0 obj
<<
/S /GoTo
/D [ 1 0 R /FitH 792 ]
>>
endobj

I get "hit and miss" results. Sometimes the file opens the way I want and sometimes I get an error and the file won't open.

Does changing the file size affect Acrobat/Reader's ability to open the file?

Is there a better description of using page numbers and "top", etc. in Destination commands than the PDF Reference?

Thanks,

Hank Greer
