Topic: Why can't I print portrait?

I'm creating a PDF file in acrobat 5 from a Powerbuilder viewer (a homegrown thing I think). From this viewer, I click the print button, select Acrobat distiller as my printer, click the setup from the printer dialog, then select portrait as the paper orientation. The data as displayed in the viewer is laid out more in a landscape format, but I want it squeezed into portrait - at this point, I don't care what it looks like I just want it portrait! The resulting PDF is formatted in landscape and when I print it, it prints landscape regardless of the orientation I select for my regular (HP laserjet 5si) printer settings. I've tried to fit to page, but that does nothing.
What am I missing? I'm very new to acrobat so this may be something simple I'm overlooking. Can't I print this file in portrait? Help!!
