Topic: Highlighting in scanned pdf?

I have scanned some pages from a catalog. I want to email them to the supplier, highlighting the items for which I want quotes.

Although I can use the highlight tool in other pdf documents, it doesn't seem to work in scanned documents.

I've scanned the pages both from within Acrobat 6, using Create pdf from scanner, and also to a jpg file which I've then "printed" to pdf. In both cases, when I use the highlight tool, nothing happens. (The cursor changes to the highlight tool cursor, but when I run it over the part I want to highlight, there's no highlighting on the page).

Am I missing something, or is it not possible to highlight within a scanned document?

Thanks
Di
