Topic: Error number 800401F3 in previously working code

I'm using code written in Visual C++ 6.0 to merge an FDF file with a PDF file. This code is compiled into a DLL file which is then called from ASP code.

The problem is that the code works sporadically. On some machines such a merge works fine, but for some reason it stops working and there is no way to get it to work again. The specific chunk of C++ code which fails reads as:

if (!objAcroAVDoc.CreateDispatch("AcroExch.AVDoc",&e))
errorMsg.Format (" Fail Code [%X]", e.m_sc);
LogToFile ("In CAcroManager::Merge, objAcroAVDoc.CreateDispatch failed." + errorMsg);
return FALSE;

It is the objAcroAVDoc.CreateDispatch call which fails.

I am using the following environment:
1. Windows 2000 Server SP4, with all the latest patches from Microsoft.
2. Adobe Acrobat 5.0, which was updated to 5.0.5.

I am confident that all of the DLLs to which I am referring are registered correctly as the program works some of the time. Does anyone have any explanation as to why this code is failing?

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
