Here's our situation: We estimate equipment costs for construction jobs by looking at blueprints. We recently signed up for an electronic construction plans service where we can download blueprints in .pdf format. We don't have a printer that can print full-size construction plans, so all we can do is save the pages we need to disc and have them printed at Kinko's or somewhere for a few bucks a page.
To come up with a job quote, we do a process referred to as "doing a job take-off" where you take your prints and count the items you are pricing. To keep your counts straight, you use colored highlighters to mark which items you've counted.
On smaller jobs, it would be quite feasible and very handy to be able to estimate a job directly from the computer. What we'd like to do is to be able to highlight certain areas of the .pdf in different colors right on the computer screen. Keep in mind that this is not text -- these .pdf files are generated by a scanner, and maybe sometimes from CAD software.
Can anyone direct me to software that we can use to highlight on the .pdf files? I imagine we could maybe do it with Corel Draw, but we're looking for a more basic option. The only software we have now is Adobe Reader 6. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!
