Topic: "Convert to PDF" does not work on multiple files

I am attempting to combine into 1 single PDF file, 250 MS Word XP documents. I am running MS Windows XP SP1, with Acrobat 6.0 Professional on a box with 1GB of RAM, and an 80GB HD. I select all the files in the folder, right click on one of the selected files, and choose the command Convert to PDF. It opens one MS Word document, but does not produce any PDFs. I then attempt to drag all the MS Word documents on top of Acrobat, and it acts like it is opening all of them and converting them, yet again nothing happens.
Does anyone know why the commands Convert to PDF or Combine in Adobe Acrobat wont work correctly?
