Topic: Reduce File Size

I use PDFLib to create PDFs and LeadTools to manipulate images. When I create a PDF it is usually from TIFF files. These TIFF files contain both 1-bit B&W and 8-bit grayscale images. I use regular TIFF compression for the 1-bit and jpeg compression for 8-bit grayscale images when I put them in a PDF.
I had thought that I was doing a good job of compressing the images but I recently tried the "Reduce File Size" in Acrobat and cut the file size down by about 30%!
Does anybody know what Acrobat could be doing to my images? I can tell that they're being further compressed but I don't know what format and I don't know how to check the "per page" image details in Acrobat to find out.
Any help is appreciated.
