Topic: Acrobat 6 created jpg cannot be deleted

I am running Adobe Acrobat 6 on an XP Dell 1.3 MHz machine. I created 8 jpg files from Adobe Acrobat 6 image files.

I received multiple pdf image files, multiple pages in each pdf file, one image per page from a friend who scanned them directly into Acrobat 6 and sent via email to my home PC that is running Win98 and Acrobat 5. Acrobat 5 does not allow SAVE AS of an Acrobat 6 file. So I copied the pdf file via my home network to my wife's XP PC with Acrobat 6(Acrobat 6 cannot be installed on Win98 PC). I then logged into my wife's PC and saved the pdf image files as jpg files.

When you attempt to view the jpg file you get a screen that is blank with a message that indicates "No preview available". I cannot delete the jpg files. When I attempt to delete a file via Explorer XP gives an error message that says: Cannot delete FILE NAME Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not currently in use. Disk is not full or write protected and file is not in use. Checking file properties it is not a Read-only, Archive or Hidden file. Attempting to delete it at the command level gives the error message "Access is denied". Attempting to remove read only attribute ATTRIB -R filename gives the following error message "Access denied"

I tried booting up XP in SAFE MODE and using both Explorer and DOS delete command to delete the jpg files. Still got same error messages and files were not deleted. Note: I made sure explorer windows were closed on network PCs before I attempted to delete the files.

PS: Do not believe I have a virus - both machines on the network are running the latest version of Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall. Both machines automatically check for new virus definitions each night and run a full scan. No viruses have been detected.

This problem occurred 12/16/03 just after I used Adobe Acrobat 6 the first time. It occurred multiple times. I have avoided making jpgs from Adobe Acrobat 6 pdf files. I have not doubt that it will still do the same thing today but have not tried it. The 8 files are creating problems and I need to delete them. Need thought on how to get rid of them.

Two Passwords Are Better Than One: The Low-Down On PDF Security

For people who don't spend their time looking at PDF files in text editors*, PDF security is a sometimes misunderstood beast.

For example, those document restrictions that PDF files sometimes have -- no Printing, Content Copying, Page Extraction, etc -- are essentially useless unless the PDF also has a User Password.
