Topic: PostScript Filesize problems

I'm using licensed Acrobat 6.0, Distiller 6.0 and PostScript 5.2 to automatically print Access reports to PDF without user intervention (confirming PDF file name) using VBA. I have a PS printer installed, but when I use the AdobePSGenericPostScriptPrinter driver for the printer, I don't have the option to print in color. If I change the driver to AdobePS Acrobat Distiller driver, I can print in color, but the PDF's filesize balloons from 7KB to 70KB (not acceptable to my boss). I know the file can be as small as 7KB because if I print to PDF using the Adobe PDF Writer printer that was installed with Acrobat, the file is color, and only 7KB.

The question: How to automatically print to PDF, in color, with a small file size. I KNOW this is possible, because I had it working before. I had to 'play' with the PS printer's device settings for hours before it worked, but then my company installed an 'upgrade' to our Adobe suite, and ruined everything. PLUS, when I try to change the printer settings now (printer properties, printing preferences, advanced options), none of the changes stick. I other words, if I try to change 'Printer output option' to 'Archive format,' the setting reverts back to 'Optimize for speed' once I click 'Apply' then 'Ok.'

Does anyone have any idea how to get small color PS files from a PostScript to Distiller PDF file?
