Topic: Dysfunctional links to named destinations

I successfully created named destinations (one at a time, but I tested each one and it works...victory!) in three separate documents. I have a 4th document (my source document) that needs to have links to various named destinations in the 3 target documents. As long as I have the target documents open, the links work; however, if I have the source document open BUT NOT the target docs, the links only open the first page of the respective target document. All of the documents are in the same folder.
I created a JavaScript to set the Disclosed Document property (per Chris Dahl's Tips & Tricks article, "Using the JavaScript Disclosed Document Property") and ran the batch process, but I still have the same problem.
Ultimately, my documents will all reside on a single CD, and the user would only be most likely to be opening the source document and using the links.
Am I missing a crucial step, or do the target documents also have to be open when the source document is open? That procedure doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks!
