Topic: Help needed indexing records in PDF

I need to archive many large data files, each of which include thousands of customer records. These files need to be archived in PDF format. The files are currently ASCII text which I can readily convert into HTML or XML for subsequent conversion into PDF.

I am looking for a method of indexing the individual customer records within the resulting PDF file by customer name or id, for example, so that the individual customer records can eventually be searched and retrieved by some sort of viewer.

Does anyone have any ideas about a simple, inexpensive way convert the data files to PDF and index them so the records within them can be searched later? Any recommendations of existing products for indexing and viewing records with PDFs?
