Since Reader 7 is out, I can answer this:
7 is slightly different than 6, but for the most part the same. The font of the results is slightly different (smaller). You can control the proximity searches through a preference now too. You can also display title/subject/author/keywords when rolling over a title in the results screen.
I agree with your comments. I would like to completely control how the results display, and give the user better options for displaying doc info items in columns and sorting them.
