I'll go a little bit out on a limb and predict that this will be anything but seamless for many, even those with the latest version of Reader.
The real question here is whether e-mail based forms "submission" is a good idea. In my experience dealing with many folks considering it or trying to make it work, it rarely is. Pandora's box suddenly comes to mind...

Designer is certainly not dumbed down. It is far more complicated than Acrobat for forms creation.

I'm glad you like it. For others considering e-mail based forms "submissions", do yourself a favor and evaluate it very carefully.
