Topic: Passing arguments and returning a value

In one column I have a list of drop downs, each with the same combination of selections as the others. In the next column I want to have a read-only text box associated with each drop down in the previous column.

Lets say that in column ONE, each drop down has the same list of vegetables. I would like a value associated with each vegetable, so that when it is selected, the value gets passed to its associated text box in the adjacent column.

To complicate or simplify matters, I would like to have a document-level javascript that would be called any time a selection was made from the drop-down. I would just pass the arguments (the drop-down value) to and get a returned value sent to the text box. The trick is that the text box name is always a variable too. HOW DO I DO THIS?!!
