Topic: Missing characters in Postscript font

For the past few years, I've been sending PageMaker files to press with no problems, using a specific set of fonts. Now, the print bureau wants the files sent as PDFs, but for one of my fonts, I can't get certain characters to stop disappearing. I use PageMaker 6.5 on Windows 98SE, and have downloaded the latest Adobe Postscript driver and PDDs for both my printer (Samsung ML-7300 PS), and Acrobat Distiller. I've reinstalled the offending font, but no change. The font is Nimrod Turkish, a level 1 font. The disappearing characters go both when printing out on my laser printer using the printer's postscript driver, and when creating a PDF. If I print the document on the same printer, using the PCL driver (my printer supports PCL and postscript), the characters print correctly. To create the PDFs, I've been using the PageMaker plug-in, either to export directly or to create a postscript file, for use in Acrobat 4.0 Distiller. Whichever method I use, I end up with missing characters. I'm embedding all fonts. I've had this font for a number of years. It prints correctly on the postscript emulator printers I've also been using in the last few years - a Brother HL-1070, and an HP 6MP. At the moment, I've resorted to pasting in accents above ordinary characters to create a composite of the characters I need, but it's time-consuming and not very precise. Not every character disappears - amongst others I'm losing the undotted i, and the g with semicircular circumflex above it - key characters in the books I'm producing. Is it possible that this level 1 font is no longer compatible with printers/drivers that expect level 2 upwards?

Any help and suggestions would be very welcome, as the process is relatively new to me

Thanks, Chrys

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
