Topic: bApplySecurity parameter of FileToPDF2 datatype unclear

I am attempting to use the FileToPDF2 Automation Method with Adobe Distiller 7.

I am using the Acrobat Distiller Automation section of the Acrobat Distiller API Reference.

I have not worked in Visual Basic in quite some time, but the description of the 'bApplySecurity' parameter has me stumped.

The excerpt from the reference listed below lists it as a long,
but goes on to discuss it like a Boolean.

How should a variable that is going to be passed to the method as the 'bApplySecurity' parameter be declared?

FileToPDF2 Automation Method

strInputPostScript The PostScript file to process.

strOutputPDF The name of the PDF filename.

strPDFOptions The name and path of the Adobe PDF
settings file to use.

long bApplySecurity Boolean that, if greater than 0, causes
security to be applied to the PDF as
currently defined in the Distiller
application security dialog.

I would like to apply the security currently defined in the Distiller application security dialog as I am attempting to batch convert postscript files and secure them against any access over than viewing and printing.

The Distiller converts the .ps files and secures them if I use it manually.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
