Topic: Collapsing/Hiding Text Within a PDF Document

We're in the process of creating a rather lengthy reference guide in PDF. The guide will encapsulate intro information as well as step by step instructions. My question is this:
Is there a way to collapse certain sections of text, making them visible only on request (by clicking an expand icon, et cetera)? I realize I can insert links but that would require creating seperate files that contain only the intro info, and that sounds rather tedious.
