I write proprietary software that produces PostScript files to be distilled. Some of our users use our software to insert pdfmarks to tag the PDF structure for accessibility. We're okay except for tagging figures.
In the pdfmark Reference Manual for Acrobat 7.0, on page 86, there is a sample of figure tagging using /Subtype /Figure (for alt-text) and a Layout object.
I found after considerable digging that Adobe Reader 7.0 has a Read Out Loud option (not enabled by default) that enables reading in tagged order, and now my Reader speaks the alt-text.
The more difficult thing for me will be to programmatically generate the BBox of the Layout object. But that seems irrelevant in either Read Out Loud or Reflow functions in the Adobe Reader, at least in the simple sample I'm using.
Do the units of the BBox have to be in the units of the current space, or in the default (72 pts = 1 in) units? If the latter, does this tag have to appear in a space that's currently *in* default units? What software cares about this BBox at all? Is this the best place to ask these questions?
Thanks,
Mark DeVries
