Topic: Random extra spaces in line of text

I have had a problem with Acrobat 6 Professional which has never manifested itself in 5. The issue is the PDF files generated from MS Word or MS Access add spaces to a line of text and, even worse, shift columnar data arbitrarily when generating a PDF from an MS Access report.

I first encountered the problem when I upgraded to Acrobat 6 Pro a few months after it was released but quickly removed it and re-installed 5 so I could continue to produce the reports I needed.

However, I recently rebuilt my system and installed MS Office 2003 Pro along with Acrobat 6 Pro, hoping that the problem may have been discovered and resolved in the interim. But the problem persists.

For example, a line of text that should read:

USS NORTH CAROLINA

Shows up in the PDF as:

US S NORTH CAROLINA

This has NEVER EVER happened using Acrobat 5 with MS Office XP Pro. But as soon as I installed Acrobat 6 Pro, stuff like this started happening. I won’t even attempt to describe what it did with columnar and tabular data in an MS Access report (the MS Access reports are VERY intricate and complex but Acrobat 5 handled them flawlessly).

I desperately want to use Acrobat 6 Pro and even upgrade to 7, but this issue of randomly inserted spaces in the PDF is about to force me to go back to Acrobat 5 and stay there.

My OS is XP Home and the fonts are all true type and embedded (even generic fonts like Arial). I have updated MS Office 2003 and Acrobat 6 Pro with all the latest patches but I still get these annoying spaces between characters in a line of text.

I haven’t found any reference to this problem anywhere so please help!

Thanks!!!
