Topic: Third party pdf vb search api?

I am writing a software handler for a laboratory instrument which will generate a PDF file every time a chromatogram is printed. The auto-generated PDF files are named using the program name and the date/time (nothing else). I am interested in later generating a table linking file name to sample ID. All of the reports have SAMPLE ID:xxxxx-xx-xx on the top right of the screen, and in fact if I open a PDF file in the reader I'm able to use the text copy tool to copy out the sample ID from the auto-generated file. However since I will be processing many thousands of these files, I naturally want to use a VB api to traverse the directory, search for the text following the string SAMPLE ID:, and pull that text out for my table.

My question is, does there exist a third party VB API for free or for purchase that will let VB search a pdf file for a string? I see on this board that there is some VB APIs that come with the full version of Acrobat. However I don't really want to use Acrobat. I'm going to buy a PDF Factory license to generate the PDF files, and I'd rather just buy a compact API for doing the searching. It makes the processing program much more portable.

Thanks!

John
