Hopefully a simple question:
Should I be able to do anything with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Type Library (AcroRD32.dll) with only the Reader (no full version or SDK) installed? The type library was installed with the reader, and I can access the library and browse the library in the object browser, but I'm having problems when I actually try to use it.

From a VB.Net project I have a reference to the above dll. When I run the following code:

Dim clsDoc As Acrobat.AcroPDDoc = New Acrobat.AcroPDDoc

I get the following exception:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in TestPDF.exe
Additional information: COM object with CLSID {FF76CB60-2E68-101B-B02E-04021C009402} is either not valid or not registered.

The dll is definitely registered, so ... ?
I guess what I'm not clear on is why I cannot create any objects from the exposed library...

Finally, assuming that the above is not going to work for me, what is the minimum I'll need to extract text from a pdf via VB.Net? Is it Adobe Standard + SDK? I've seen some other components out there that do the job with varying degrees of success (one from PDFTron.com has been especially good), but I'd like to use the product endorsed by Adobe if possible. [I should further qualify that the final product will run as a Windows service, i.e., no user interaction]

Thanks

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
