Does anyone know of any information that clearly states the differences between PDF versions and what incompatibilities one could expect to encounter?

I have reviewed the specifications and being the lazy type, I don't want to sift through hundreds of pages to find this information (not so lazy that I haven't searched this forum though).

Moving from version 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and now 1.6, I would really like to know what new features may cause problems and how older versions handle new features like encrypt ion, transparency and compression.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
