Hi:
I have Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Reader 7.0 installed on my XP Home machine. About six months ago I uninstalled 6.0. About the same time I had a major crash and had to reinstall a lot of programs. Since then, I cannot view pdfs in any web browser. I DO have Adobe checked to allow such viewing in Edit/Preferences/Options/Display PDF in browser.
I'm wondering if there might be an Active X control that affects this that I can reinstate? Some setting in IE or Firefox or Windows XP?
I have no problem viewing pdfs if I rightclick them and save them to my harddrive, then open Adobe (or another pdf viewer) and open the saved file. But just can't get pdfs to open in my internet browsers. I'm using the latest version of Firefox and IE 6.0-something. Instead, I get the little red box inside a black box in the upper left-hand corner of an otherwise blank page.
Ideas? This has perplexed me for six months and I've spent countless hours trying to figure it out. To no avail. Just discovered this site. Am hopeful again.
Thanks,
kwc
