Did you ever determine what was the cause of your problem?

I recently upgraded my computer from Win 98SE to WinXP and to Acrobat reader 7.0. Now the doucments forwarded to me are sometimes readable - sometimes contain characters that are jumbled and totally unreadable - and sometimes a combination of readable and non-readable material.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
