there are 3 that can be applied with Adobe Acrobat:
1) Owner Password only - applies rights for all users of the document.
2) Owner + User Password - applies right to ONLY those users with the password
3) Encrypt for Recipient/Certificate - use of Public Key Certs to
encrypt to one or more individuals.
In addition, there is the Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server,
which enables a MUCH greater variety of digital rights on a PDF
including ACL's, page-level protection, etc.
